Introduction
Many trials were made since the ancient Egyptian time for the search of gold in Egypt, but not a single trial was recorded for the search of platinum.
Platinum is almost exclusively related to the mafic and ultramafic rocks. It is used in the medical, chemical and electronic industries.
Since platinum has been found, so far, at nine localities (namely Gebel Lawi, Dahanib, ElMotaghairat, Gabbro Akarem, ElGeneina ElSharkiya, the Southern Peridotite mass of Zabargad Island, ElGeneina ElGharbiya, Rubshi and Baramiya), this has encouraged us to make an integrated study to evaluate the potentiality of the ore.
This study will be divided into:
-
Studying the ophiolite rocks e.g. Gebel Abu Dahr.
-
Studying the layered intrusions e.g. Gebel ElMotaghairat
-
Studying deposits associated with mafic and ultramafic rocks e.g. gabbro Akarem
- Studying chromite deposits from twenty three localities in the Eastern Desert.
